What
is Òtreatment-freeÓ honey? Conventionally-kept bee
colonies are prophylactically-treated with a variety of chemicals: ¥ Antibiotics
(Terramycin for treating foulbrood disease) ¥ Pesticides (Apistan
for Verroa mites) ¥ GardStar (for treating
small hive beetles) ¥ Bee Go (to push bees
off honey prior to extraction) Our bees are kept as
healthy as possible so that we donÕt need to treat them with chemicals that
may end-up in the environment, and worse, in our honey! Also, our bees are kept
on either Certified Organic or Certified Naturally-Grown farms (Abundant
Life, Hotchkiss Colorado, and Fire Mountain Farm and Apiary, Paonia Colorado,
respectively). How
can one say it's organic honey when bees can fly wherever they want? Our
bees are specifically housed away from any kind of contamination, and a
plethora of blooming vegetation is cultivated for the very purpose of keeping
them foraging locally, thereby collecting only organic nectar. If they can
find food nearby, their foraging area is significantly minimized. Why
ÒcombÓ honey? There
are no guarantees that conventionally extracted honey is not diluted with
sugar-water and other artificial ingredients. Our honey is 100%
treatment-free, unfiltered, un-heated (which destroys beneficial enzymes),
and contains edible wax comb as well as small amounts of pollen. |
